US_TA12_118_A_TAC12_7188_4T3If you’re a fan of the pick-up truck, you certainly have a wide selection to choose from today. In fact, there are so many different styles available that it can be hard to determine which one is right for you. When shopping for a Toyota pickup truck, you need to narrow things down a bit before you head to the Toyota dealership.

For example, do you prefer an automatic or manual transmission? If you always wanted a manual transmission but have avoided them in the past because they can roll backwards on hills, you should know that many of the new pickup trucks have hill locking differentials and traction control that helps to eliminate this problem. The next thing you need to consider is why you want a pickup.

Why Are You Buying a Pickup Truck?

The reason you’re buying a Toyota pickup will have a major impact on which one you should buy. If you just want a truck, then all you need is a body style you like and something that you feel comfortable driving.

On the other hand, if you need a truck then everything changes. Before you can choose the right pickup truck, you have to consider what size to buy based on how you plan to use it. Do you plan to haul items in the bed of the truck or use it for towing? This will determine what size bed you need and what towing capabilities to look for in you new truck.

Towing and Engine Capacity

If you plan to use your truck for hauling or towing, then you need to take a close look at the towing and engine capacity of the truck you have in mind. Most compact trucks can tow smaller boats and trailers provided they’re not carrying a heavy load. However, if you’re hauling heavy equipment or anything weighing over 3,000 pounds, you’re better off getting a mid or full size truck.

You also want the truck to have the engine power to accommodate your needs. The smaller trucks will normally have a 4-cylinder or V-6 engine. These get better gas mileage than a V-8 but pulling heavy loads can strain the engine and wear them out faster.

Generally, if you’re handling light items, a 4-cylinder is fine. If you’re towing or hauling moderate to heavy items, then a V-6 engine would be sufficient. However, if you plan to use your pickup for hauling anything in the heavy range, especially if it will be constant then you need a full size pickup with a V-8 engine.

Comfort Matters

One last thing that you need to look at is comfort when buying a Toyota in Miami FL. How many people will normally be riding in the truck? If you will be alone or only have one other person, then a standard cab would be sufficient. Extended cabs have jump seats behind the front seat but they’re not usually very comfortable. It can also be difficult for an adult to get into the back of an extended cab, which is why they’re normally used for hauling tools, packages or similar items.

The double cab is the best choice if you have three or four people with you most of the time. The Toyota Tundra is a good example of a double cab pickup that features a large, comfortable back seat. This style truck also has four doors, which makes it easy to get in and out of the back seat. Once you determine why you’re buying your Toyota truck, it will become much easier to choose the right pickup truck for your needs.
